Tightlining Eyes

So girls, do you ever tightline your eyes?

I know probably 90% of you girls (guys?) reading this use eyeliner very often, maybe everyday? But how many of you actually have the habit of tightlining your eyes?

From observing professional makeup artist in action (YouTube and real life), they always tightline the eyes without fail. I know some makeup artists actually cringe or feel annoyed when someone doesn't tightline. XD

Just a quick FYI, tightlining involves darkening the lash area and waterline to make the eyelashes look fuller. You could use any type of eyeliner to tightline, be it pencil, powder, liquid or gel eyeliner. I'd strongly suggest a highly pigmented liner to easily 'colour' the lash line without scratching the delicate eye area and also a water/smudge proof liner to prevent your liner from melting or smudging. Not a pretty sight I tell you.

I tightline my eyes by gently lifting the eyelid and 'dabbing' the eyeliner onto my waterline and lash line. I also usually go over the liner with a small angled brush loaded with black eyeshadow to fill in spaces I've missed and also to seal in the liner.

I find that my Benefit BADgal usually smudges easily, hence the black eyeshadow. However, if your liner stays put for the day without causing the 'panda symptom', good for you! You have one step less in your routine. =D

A word of advice, please try not to 'pull' your lids while tightlining. Our eyes blink a zillion times a day and our lids are gently stretched every time we blink. We don't need the extra pulling and tugging to stress our lids, unless extremely sagging and hooded eyes are your thing?

Don't worry if you're 'not getting it' the first time tightlining, it took me some time to find my comfortable rhythm.

As with all makeup skills, I'd like to quote myself (lol!!):

"Dear, shut up and practice."

Panel 1:
Upper lashline tightlined.

Panel 2:
Lower lashline tightlined.

Panel 3:
Eyelash curled and given love with mascara.

This is a great method for girls with very little eyelid space and want to keep the lid space. As with applying eyeliner above the lashline, eyelid space is used up, hence reducing or even completely covering the double eyelid.

I know you love your double eyelids eh?

On my eyes:
Eyebrows and waterline - Revlon ColorStay Brow Enhancer
Eyeliner - Benefit BADgal & MAC Carbon
Mascara - Cosmagic Exte Bomber Mascara

I've always avoided lining the bottom lashline because people said it would make our eyes seem smaller. However, it feels like my eyes seem bigger after lining them!

What do you think?

Do you have the tightlining habit?

=D

Cheers!!

  1. I rarely tightline but the effect is great on you - it definitely makes your eyes look more defined and larger :) My main issue is that my eyelid pretty much covers up my lashes, so even if I tightlined the upper lashline, I doubt it would show :p

  3. I'm still pretty new at tightlining my eyes too, especially the upper lashline! I tend to skip tightlining my upper lids when I'm in a hurry cause I'm still trying to figure out the fastest and most comfortable way for me! =D

I've just read your Benefit mascara review and I understand what you mean by not having the eyeliner show when you tightline. =D

  5. The tightlining really enhances your eyes :) I used to tight line but I've gotten too lazy now and it made my eyes watery :(

  6. Aww noo!! Could you be allergic to the eyeliner? My friend applied falsies for the first time and her eyes watered like crazy for like an hour plus till we decided to remove it. Turns out she was allergic to the glue!
